When you're ready to get started working from home, there are a few things you'll want to do. It begins with an honest assessment of what you want, what you have and what opportunities are available to you. Here's a list of questions to ask yourself. Just like the step you just did, don't worry whether it's marketable or not. Just make a good long list of all of your strengths.

* What are your weaknesses? Don't spend too much time on this one but be aware of what you're not good at when you're considering potential opportunities. For example, if you are considering direct sales but are extremely uncomfortable talking to groups of people, this may not be the right opportunity for you.

* What are the possibilities? Here is where you start combining your lists of what you're good at, what you enjoy and what can be created from those two things. For example, if you love crafting and are a skilled at it, you could start a business making jewelry, home décor or other craft. You could also create an information website on crafting or become a direct sales consultant for a crafting company.

* Who do you know?

Before you finalize any decisions, consider who you know and how they might be able to help you.

If you know people who have started their own business, connect with them for help.

If you know people who telecommute or have a work at home opportunity, talk to them.
